Pinewood Derby 2011

After hours of cutting, sanding and painting Ryan's pinewood derby car was finished right before we left for the race.  I was a little nervous, okay very nervous, about how Ryan's car would do this year.  Last year was a disaster!!  His car lost every race and he didn't take it well.  This year went much better.  He won quite a few of the races and ended up getting the award for the most beautiful car.  I'm sure he would rather have had the award for the fastest, but hey it's an award right?!  Anyway, he was happy to win some races and get the award and mom is happy to not have to deal with a son who is crying in the corner.:)

Happy Birthday Evan!!

Evan turned two last week!!  We can't believe he's two already!  He is so much fun to have around and makes us all laugh.  He loves play with trucks and blocks and outside on the playset.  He does have a fascination with shoes and loves to get into his sisters' closets to find their shoes and walk around the house in them.  If you're missing shoes, chances are Evan is wearing them.:)  We love him even if he's reach that terrible, I mean terrific, stage of life.  I'm reminded every day what life with Ryan at this age was like.  Duane was lucky enough to miss that phase of Ryan's life, but now gets to go through it with Evan.  Despite the lovely age of two and the trials that may come with it, we love every day with Evan and are glad to have him in our family.

So, I attempted to make an ice cream cake and followed to directions, but learned that the cake takes longer than four hours to set (notice it melting to the side).  Oh well, Ryan wants one for his birthday, so I'll get a second chance to get it right.
