Cooking With the Footes

We decided to invest in a new camera and we took the advice of my good friend Destry (thanks Destry!!) and got ourselves a Nikon D60. Well, we have been having a great time getting used to our new camera and Duane has had a lot of fun taking all kinds of pictures. We can't wait to find out all the neat things we can do with it!! Duane, the cameraman, caught me in the middle of slicing cucumbers for a pasta salad, so I struck a pose for the camera.

With me behind the camera, I knew I needed to take a picture of Duane the BBQ Master. He loves to BBQ and grills whenever he gets a chance. He's come a long way in his technique!! There's no longer burnt burgers that are still raw in the middle! He's evolved into a man who can cook a steak perfectly!

Well, tonight's grilling menu was Asian Flank Steak. I have to tell you that I am usually really cheap when it comes to buying beef. To my husband's delight, I have on occasion decided to splurge on the nicer cuts of meat. I remember my Mom telling me that I should never pay over $2.00/lb for meat, so I've tried to stay true to that advice. Well, it's almost impossible these days and my husband insists that the pricier cuts of meat are part of the reason his grilling has been so successful lately. I will continue to tell myself that even if the flank steak cost me $8.00, the entire price of the meal is still considerably less than going out, right?!

So, it's not just Ryan that has talent in the kitchen. Miranda didn't want to be upstaged by her younger brother, so she decided to try her hand in the kitchen and treat us to some chicken nachos. She insisted on no assistance, including when it came to shredding the cheese. They actually came out pretty tasty! She was very proud of herself and insists on having her recipe put in the Foote Family Cookbook that will debut at the end of this year.

Miranda, I'm so jealous that you're going to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat!

How fun to have a family that like to cook. I love to cook, but I think I may be the only one in my little family. Rick can toast up a mean grilled cheese!
